Vitamin A
For our bodies to function healthy we
need the proper nutrients on a daily basis. We need to eat right and
exercise to feel good about ourselves and ward off illnesses. We should
receive our daily intakes of vitamins and minerals. Some people however
do not like to track those because there are so many vitamins that exist
that we need. It can be confusing. One important vitamin we do not
think about is Vitamin A.
What Is Vitamin A?
You may wonder what Vitamin A is and why it’s important. You are not alone as many
people are unaware about Vitamin A. Vitamin A is also referred to as
retinol. It’s vital in our lives. Vitamin A is important for our cell
reproduction, to aid us with good vision, and a healthy immune system.
Some also believe it is great to use as an anti-aging regiment. You will
find it in many skin care lines.
What Is The Recommended Dosage Of Vitamin A?
As with any other vitamin, you should
take Vitamin A in the recommended dosage. Men should take about 900
micrograms a day while women only need 700 micrograms a day. Depending
upon your doctor or nutritionists recommendation, you may take up to
3,000 micrograms a day without suffering any side effects.
The following are the benefits of taking Vitamin A:
- Some believe Vitamin A can help prevent breast cancer.
- Prevents and treats cataracts and increases healthy eyesight
- Shortens recovery time of laser eye surgery
- Reduces pregnancy complications if the mother is malnourished
- Reduces complications due to diseases such as measles and malaria.
Vitamin A Deficiency
A person who is suffering from Vitamin A
deficiency may have diabetes, fevers, cystic fibrosis, or other protein
deficiencies. If so, there are a few ways to increase your Vitamin A.
Taking multivitamins is one way of getting your Vitamin A dosage as long
as it’s the recommended daily allowance.
Foods That Contain Vitamin A
You are more than likely accustomed to eating Vitamin A foods every day and not even realizing it. Many
cereal companies fortify their cereals with it. An excellent source of
Vitamin A is in green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale. It’s
also in orange and yellow vegetables like squash, yellow bell peppers,
carrots, and sweet potato with the peel. Eating a few good colorful
salads a week can help you achieve the Vitamin A you need. Other foods
would be milk, eggs, and liver.
If You Are In Any Doubt About Taking Vitamins Or Minerals Consult Your Doctor
If you are unsure of how to get the
proper nutrients in your diet, consult with your doctor or
nutritionists. If you have a health club membership, your trainer can
offer you advice as well. There are many other vitamins you need in your
body and some work with other vitamins and others against them. It is
important to learn the proper way to eat your foods to remain healthy.
