TFT
Dr. Roger Callahan, an American psychologist
developed thought field therapy or TFT after he was inspired an
acupuncture class he took. What is TFT you say? Thought field therapy is
a fringe psychological treatment that is used to heal many different
mental and physical disorders. The process is done with a special
tapping movement performed with fingers at meridian points on the upper
body and hands.
When developing this treatment Callahan
came up with the concept that when someone thinks about an experience
related to an emotional problem they go into a thought field. This field
they have retreated to is the fundamental concept of thought field
therapy. Roger has stated that the thought field “created an imaginary,
though quite real scaffold, upon which we may erect our explanatory
notion.”
What Are Perturbations?
Perturbations are encoded information
that resides in this thought field. Every distortion of a person’s
thought field is associated with a different problem and is motivated by
thinking of the problem. Perturbation is what he believed are the
origin of a negative emotions. He also believed that each negative
emotion is associated with meridian points on the body. To element the
negative emotion the meridian point must be “tapped.” He believes that
this can relieve a good amount of psychological issues that include post
traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, addictions, and
phobias. These are just a few examples, there are plenty more. One of
the first patients that Callahan tried this type of therapy on had a
severe fear of water. He told her to tap lightly underneath her eye.
After Mary did this she astoundingly and immediately saw a change in her
phobia.
Thought Field Therapy
Many people are not sure about this type
of therapy because of the lack of research and science to back it up.
There have been just as many people that have tried this type of therapy
and said that it has helped them. This type of tapping therapy might
not be for everyone, and that’s okay. This type of therapy works very
well with different types of phobias, and if you are at your wit’s end,
it is definitely worth doing.
“Many patients that are battling
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can look at this as an alternative
to medication or lots of therapy”
Each different emotional disorder has a
specific place on the body. If this is something that you may what to
try find the location that is associated with your disorder and give it a
try. Or you can give clinical hypnotherapist Ian Smith at the Quays
Clinic of Hypnotherapy who is a specialist in using thought field
therapy a call in North Shields.
