Quit Smoking
Quitting smoking may be a huge challenge
for some people. However, it is one of the best things you can do to
improve your health. We are all aware that smoking is a dangerous and
potentially deadly habit. We also know that smoking is the leading
cause of cancer and that by smoking you are at a greater risk of
conditions such as strokes, heart attack, cataracts, lung disease and
bone fractures. If you have tried most of the stop smoking aids that
are available such as nicotine patches, gun and lozenges, then maybe
hypnotherapy is the answer for you.
About Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a state of awareness that is
altered in a way that you appear to be in a trance. Hypnosis is often
used to treat other physical and psychological conditions as well. It
is used for pain control, addiction problems, weight loss and speech
problems. While you appear to be in a trance during a hypnosis session,
you are not unconscious at any point. You still know where you are and
what you are doing. You cannot be forced to do things you are not
comfortable with during a session either. You may often wonder how do you stop
smoking. There are several ways to stop smoking. Besides the smoking
cessation aids listed above, hypnotherapy is often used to help to stop
smoking. During a hypnotherapy session to stop
smoking, the person is sometimes suggested to think about what
unpleasant results come from smoking. For example, the hypnotherapist
may suggest that the taste left behind after smoking a cigarette
resembles the inside of a garbage can or the smell of cigarette smoke
resembles a truck exhaust.
Stop Smoking Support
One of the more popular techniques used
in a smoking cessation hypnosis session is Spiegel’s method. With this
method, there are three main ideas used for stop smoking support. These
three ideas are that smoking poisons your body, your body is needed to
survive and you need to respect as well as protect your body. These
three affirmations are to be said aloud when the desire to smoke arises. There is quite a bit of studies that
have been done over the years to see if hypnotherapy does in fact work
to help people stop smoking. The stop smoking information that is out
there does suggest that it does in fact work. A study was published in
2001 in the Journal of Dental Education that stated that there was
sufficient evidence which “seems justified to classify it as a possibly
effective treatment for smoking cessation.” There have also been
numerous studies that looked into the Spiegel method and discovered that
close of 50% of patients has stopped smoking within a year of
practicing the method.
