The Mental Health Care Act And Mental Illness | Quays Clinic of Hypnotherapy

All About Mental Health

The Mental Health Care Act is a law in the United Kingdom that is very similar to the concept of citizen’s arrest. The idea is that if an individual in the community feels that the mental state or mental health of an individual risks the safety of the person or people around them the individual can be detained by the local authority.

Mental Illness

Naturally, the Mental Health Care Act is one that many people find to be cruel and unusual. It would be all too easy for someone to take advantage of the system and start pushing for individuals who do not really need to be detained to be detained.
The unfortunate truth is that while this act is deemed cruel and a little extreme that it is also necessary. This is because the mental health or mental illness of an individual does not necessarily just affect them and stop there. Depending on the mental health condition of the person they could put individuals in their community at serious risk. This is why it is important to realize that the mental health care act is not about being cruel it is about the mental health and well-being of all people in the community. It is about providing mental health nursing and mental health services to individuals who are sometimes unaware or unwilling to admit that they have mental health disorders.

Mental Health Disorders

It is not necessarily the case that a person with a mental health disorder wants to hurt people or even that they do not want to seek help. It is their very mental state sometimes that leads them to think that they are perfectly fine or that what they are doing would never hurt themselves or others. While it is definitely not true of everyone, when it comes to mental health services there are some people who need to be forced into getting the help that they desperately need.

What Is Mental Health?

For individuals who still doubt whether or not this act is absolutely necessary, it helps to understand everything about mental health. The truth is that mental health is no different than your physical health and it is certainly just as important. In fact, your mental well-being is often considered to be more important. This is because everything you do and everything you do not do is decided by your brain. If your brain is not healthy and not in working order it can make it difficult for you to do normal everyday tasks. It can also make it difficult for you to know right from wrong. This is why a lot of people need the mental health care act. Some individuals who struggling to tell right from wrong run the risk of making poor choices and harming themselves in a number of ways.
