There seems to be many different perceptions of the word health. Some people perceive the word health as physical health such as heart problems or the flu while others think of health in the realm of mental health. The word itself is an English word hale which means wholeness or being whole. The World Health Organization defines health as “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity.”
What is Women’s Health?
Women’s health indicates specific health concerns that deal with only the female anatomy. Many times these deal with things such as breast conditions or concerns with female genitalia. Specific health issues in women include contraception, menstruation cycles, pregnancy, child birth, breast cancer and menopause. Other medical conditions that are of great concern to women are heart disease, osteoporosis, depression and autoimmune diseases.
What is Men’s Health?
Men’s health deals with the causes and factors that cause men to be healthy or not healthy. There are several factors that impact the health status of men. Most of these factors are environmentally related including childhood rearing, education, relationships, transportation, work, social connections, housing and diet choices. Men’s health has long been a concern since the beginning of time because men have higher rates of illness, accidents and premature death than women. The top health concerns for men include heart disease, cancer, unintentional accident injuries, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and Alzheimer’s.
What is Health Fitness?
Fitness is the ability to take part in physical activity. It also means having enough energy and strength to feel your best. There are many benefits associated with fitness including lowering your risk for heart attack, high blood pressure, some cancers and diabetes. Fitness is great for your muscles, heart, bones, joints and lungs.
What is Considered Health Food?
Foods that are considered to be healthy are fruits, veggies, lean meats, raw nuts, egg whites, low fat yogurt, fish, whole grains and water. Basically anything that comes from the earth can be considered to be healthy. Also, stay away from processed foods as they are very high in salt. Plus they contain loads of chemicals as well as hydrogenated fats.
What is Mental Health?
The Surgeon General’s Report on Mental Health defines mental health as it “refers to the successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationships with other people, and the ability to adapt to change and cope with adversity.” Mental disorders are specific health conditions which are noticed by changes in thinking, mood or behavior.
What is Behavioral Health?
Behavioral health is often defined as the connection between the way that we behave and our health and well being. It deals with not only the body but the mind and the spirit as well. These behaviors can be anything from eating and drinking habits or fitness routines. Basically anything that impacts your physical or mental health is considered to be behavioral health.
What is A Health Plan?
A healthy eating plan combines foods that you do eat as well as what you choose not to eat. It also deals with a normal eating pattern of normal portions of food. A healthy eating plan is important if you want to improve your health. This plan would include a regular intake of essential vitamins, minerals as well as other nutrients.
What Is Health Insurance?
Health insurance is a medical protection plan that covers your medical expenses in the event of an illness, injury and medical conditions. There are many health benefits that go along with insurance. Health insurance comes in several different plans including HMO and PPO. HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization and PPO stands for Preferred Provider Organization. There are advantages and disadvantages of each plan. You normally get health insurance through your employer.
