What Is Hypnotism?
Hypnosis has been defined as a psychological state which has certain physiological attributes that look like sleep. This definition captures our common understanding of hypnosis, but research has not only revealed that hypnosis is a much more complicated thing, but it has also given rise to a number of theories about how to best define hypnosis. One theory suggests that hypnosis is just a mental state, while another theory links hypnosis to imaginative role-enactment.
Learn All About Hypnosis
When people are in hypnosis they are in a heightened state of focused awareness or concentration. They have the ability to concentrate intensely on a specific thought or memory without any conscious interference. A hypnosis session usually starts with a hypnotic induction, deepening process and then the therapy. The final stage is just exiting hypnosis. The therapy stage is the most important because that is where the hypnotic suggestions and visualizations are given. As long as the suggestions are accepted by the client they become permanent memory and create the necessary change that is required. The hypnotic suggestions will be given to a client by a hypnotist or hypnotherapist or may be self-administered which is commonly called self-hypnosis, self-suggestion or autosuggestion. The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes which has been used for hundreds of years is commonly referred to as hypnotherapy. The use of hypnosis for entertainment is known as stage hypnosis.
What Is Hypnosis?
The term hypnosis comes from the Greek word hypnos which means sleep. The words hypnosis and hypnotism both derive from the term neuro-hypnotism (nervous sleep) which was coined by the Scottish surgeon James Braid around 1841. Braid based his practice on that developed by Franz Anton Mesmer. This is where we get the word “Mesmerize” from. Many people believe that when in hypnosis a person is in an unconsciousness state of mind resembling sleep, but research has shown that hypnotic subjects are not asleep but fully awake and actually are in a heightened state of awareness. When in natural hypnosis people are in a very suggestible state of mind and are far more likely to accept a suggestion from another person. As long as the suggestion is not against something that the person feels strongly about, or its against their religious beliefs or they just don’t want to accept it, the suggestion is normally accepted which will then be acted upon. Hypnosis is nothing to be frightened about because it is a natural phenomenon which is very much like daydreaming. You can go in to hypnosis any time that you want and you can also exit the state anytime that you want. You most certainly cant get stuck in hypnosis.
What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a skill which is used by a hypnotherapist who uses the tool of hypnosis to help a person change their unwanted habits, behaviors and emotions. When the analyzing conscious mind is bypassed the therapist will then give repeated positive suggestions and visualizations which will then be programmed in to the subconscious mind. This will help to create new positive habits and behaviors. Hypnotherapy can be used for many different aspects in a persons life. A hypnotherapist can use hypnosis and hypnotherapy to help a client to stop smoking, increase confidence and for weight loss. They can also use it to help with self-development and self-improvement and to increase self-esteem.
How Many Sessions Of Hypnotherapy Are Required
The amount of hypnotherapy sessions that are needed for different problems vary. As long as the somnambulistic depth of hypnosis is achieved there is no reason why habits like that of quitting smoking cannot be successfully dealt with in one or two sessions. For more complex issues you must be realistic about the number of sessions which could be required and expect a minimum of one to four sessions.

Quays Clinic Of Hypnotherapy Gets Results!
In my professional career I have seen amazing change take place in a single session. You can imagine what its like when someone has had a social phobia or fear for most of their life and after one session of hypnotherapy its gone. Or a smoker that has smoked heavily from a very early age that instantly has no desire to smoke ever again. As a therapist this is where my job satisfaction comes from. Over the many years that I have been in full time professional practice I have seen many hundreds of my clients achieve the success that they desire. I never offer any guarantees at my hypnotherapy clinic. My clients know what I offer is absolute honesty, integrity, years of experience and a wealth of knowledge about the subject of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. From time to time there will be occasions where its not possible for me to help someone (thankfully these occasions have been very few) where I will refer the client back to their doctor. There is a massive difference between psychosis and neurosis. I don’t deal with psychosis. There are other agencies in the health profession that your doctor will be able to recommend which will be able to help you.
