What Is Aromatherapy | Quays Clinic of Hypnotherapy

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is basically the look into scents and how they are used in a therapeutic manner.  People discovered things about aromatherapy thousands of years ago.  It was not known as aromatherapy until the early part of the 1990’s.  During the biblical times, aromatic plants as well as essential oils were used often as food, added to food, for ritualistic events, offerings to the gods, medicine and also to ward off bad smells.  In fact, in the Bible plant oils are mentioned on numerous occasions.  Cleopatra was well known for using essential oils as were the ancient Greeks and Romans.  The Greeks and the Romans used these oils for medical use.  The therapeutic benefits were discovered in China and India by doctors.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the art of using aromatherapy oils for the purpose of emotional and physical health and well being.  The art of aromatherapy goes beyond just the inviting smells though.  It deals with how certain essential oils have a chemical effect on the body.  Aromatherapy oil is normally used by giving a massage, in the bath, in hair care or in the air.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are volatile liquids which are taken form shrubs, plants, trees, flowers, seeds and bushes.  These oils are said to have certain properties including anti bacterial, anti fungal, immune stimulating, anti parasitic, anti viral, anti septic and anti tumoral.
Essential oils are often used for various conditions and treatments.  Chamomile is used for eczema, allergies and insomnia.  Lavender is often used for sinusitis, dry skin, Restless Leg syndrome and anxiety.  Tea tree is sometimes used for fungal infections.  Cloves are used for toothaches while Frankincense is used for meditation purposes.  Rose oil is often used for depression and smooth skin.
A diffuser is a small device that is used to disperse the essential oils into the air.  Aromatherapy diffusers come in several types including fan diffuser, heat diffuser and mist diffuser.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the art of bodywork which focuses mainly on the feet.  The theory behind this bodywork is that there are areas on the feet which connect to certain organs on the body such as the glands and other organs.  For instance, the tips of your toes correspond with the head, the lower back connects with the heels, the heart is connected to the ball of the foot and the liver and kidneys correspond to the foot arches.  Reflexology has many benefits including helping with insomnia, tension headaches, back pain, menstrual cramps, hormonal imbalances and sports injuries.

What is An Aromatherapy Massage?

An Aromatherapy massage uses oils which are taken from flowers, herbs and fruits in order to naturally enhance the massage benefits.  This type of massage has many benefits including relieving stress, promoting relaxation, managing pain, lowering blood pressure, relaxing muscles and improving range of motion.
